What is this "Solid Waste" Special Assessment on my Property Tax Statement?
The Solid Waste Management Fee is authorized under Minnesota State Statute 400.08. The Pine County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on October 6, 2015 in consideration of imposing the fee. The fee will be used to make improvements to the solid waste management practices in Pine County.
The fee for 2019 was $8 per improved taxable property and was increased to $10 for 2020 (and will remain $10 until the County Board amends it). If the fee is showing on your property tax statement and your property is not improved, please complete an appeal form.
With this fee in place Pine County has opened a Household Hazardous Waste Facility, made improvements to the recycling shed program, and has opened transfer stations in Willow River and Pine City in 2019 along with further recycle shed improvements focused in throughout the county. In 2020 and 2021 the fee has been and will be used to continue making improvements to the transfer stations in Willow River and Pine City.
The County Board can revisit the fee annually to decide whether they want to continue it or change the amount.
