Jail Medical Unit
The Pine County Jail provides four on-site Registered Nurses (one full-time and three part-time) weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. plus various weekend hours to manage the healthcare needs of all inmates.
Inmate healthcare sevices are provided similar to that of an outpatient clinic. Inmates must inform jail staff or nursing staff of their medical, dental or mental health needs at intake or through the established sick-call system.
The nurse triages all requests and either provides or arranges for care, and coordinates all outside appointments. In addition, a physician from a local clinic reviews medical needs once a week.
Inmates are charged co-pays for any treatment or medication provided and they are able to purchase non-prescription medications for minor health care conditions.
